12 Wedding Planning Tips for Your Grand Blanc Celebration

Planning a wedding in Michigan comes with big decisions—but also beautiful possibilities. Whether you’re envisioning a cozy gathering in the countryside, an intimate ceremony under a gazebo, or an elegant celebration at a modern event venue, your planning journey should feel intentional—not overwhelming.

Grand Blanc and the surrounding areas offer incredible local vendors, seasonal beauty, and versatile venue options—from rustic meadows to banquet halls—that help make wedding events feel personal and unforgettable.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you start planning your big day:

  1. Book your venue early to secure the right space, style, and venue capacity for your vision
  2. Stay flexible when choosing dates or layouts so your timeline can adjust with ease
  3. Think about how your layout will support guest flow, mingling, and a smooth transition from ceremony to reception
  4. Choose a venue that offers indoor space or a covered gazebo for vows in case of unexpected weather
  5. Prioritize vendors who understand your vision and make communication easy
  6. Ask whether the venue includes onsite catering or if you’ll need to bring in your own team
  7. Make space in your budget for beverage service, music, and other reception must-haves
  8. Don’t forget about glassware, dessert displays, or fun add-ons like a sweets table
  9. If your space requires a wedding reception rental, ask about setup, teardown, and what’s included—chairs, linens, restrooms, and more
  10. Make sure your venue has wheelchair-accessible spaces for guests with mobility needs
  11. Use a checklist or digital planning tool to stay organized and track decisions
  12. And when you’re building your guest list, decide early: Are you keeping it small and intimate, or going big enough to double as a family or class reunion? (No judgment—we’ve seen both, and we’ve got space for either.)

Choosing a Venue That’s Got Your Back

No matter how organized your spreadsheet is, the real magic of a smooth wedding day comes from a venue team that shows up, solves problems, and genuinely cares about your experience. When you’re balancing a busy life—or just want to stay out of the stress spiral—having a built-in support system makes all the difference.

Here’s what one of our couples, Brianna Z., shared after her experience at The Northfork Estate:

“Choosing The Northfork Estate as my wedding venue was the best wedding decision I made! Marta, Heidi, and the rest of the crew were absolutely amazing! I was someone who was running a busy life—working 2 jobs and completing graduate school while also planning my wedding. They all made the process so easy for me!

savannah and colin

They gave so many tips, tricks, and support along the way. I asked for Marta’s professional opinion on many things and she always came with a truthful and honest answer. I trusted her and Heidi with my life! They were extremely communicative, and because we used a lot of the vendors from their list, they were able to support those vendors and take the reins on a lot of that setup.

savannah and colin

I truly felt very relaxed and comfortable on my wedding day because of these ladies. Even their day-of staff was amazing. They all went above and beyond to make my day stress-free and smooth. Our last shuttle bus was running behind at the end of the night, and the staff on the trolley took many of our guests on small tour rides through the property (which was one of the funniest parts of the night).

savannah and colin | wedding venues in central michigan

They all truly love their jobs, and I didn’t feel like they were just vendors or coordinators—I left The Northfork feeling like I made friends with these ladies. The Northfork will hold a special place in my heart forever!” — Brianna Z.

Reviews like this remind us why we do what we do—and what we want every couple to walk away feeling: supported, seen, and surrounded by people who care.

What is a realistic budget for a 100-person wedding?

A realistic budget for a 100-person wedding in Michigan ranges from $20,000 to $30,000. This includes expenses for venue, catering, attire, and other essentials. Opting for venues that offer bundled services can provide better value.

What is the most expensive part of a wedding?

The reception venue is often the most significant expense in a wedding budget. Costs can include venue rental, catering, and additional services, which collectively can constitute a substantial portion of the overall budget.

Who pays for a wedding?

Traditionally, the bride’s family covers the majority of wedding expenses, including the ceremony and reception. However, modern couples often share costs with both families or cover expenses themselves, depending on individual circumstances and preferences.
